Plot Diagram Activities

Included:
Plot Diagram 1-Page Graphic Organizers (multiple options given for varying levels of detail)
Plot Diagram Group Work Time!: This is where the magic happens! Each plot element has their own page.
Group Work Directions: This is designed where each student discusses with their small group and they decide which part of the story fits in which part of the diagram. They then each individually outline and describe that part of the story. They then come back together and construct their group plot diagram together. It is a great way for you to make the plot diagram activity that we all know and love, a group activity. Then, the magic happens AGAIN when we come together as a class and review the elements together, by having various groups present their findings to the class. A great way to touch on setting and theme as well.
Journal Activities- Students identify which part of the plot diagram their reading for that day belongs in. This is only an estimate to get them thinking about the plot diagram as they read. It is suggested to use this in addition tot heir reading journals or just as a daily discussion starter for the class.
Quote & Plot Diagram Activity: Students find a quote individually or in small groups that shows the action in each part of the plot diagram.
Story Mountain Donut Project (See Directions Below)
Journal Options (quote, illustrated and traditional daily writing prompts based on plot structure)

Story Mountain Donuts!
This is such a great way to make literary analysis and plot elements interesting and just plain different! Have fun with this one!
This is a fully adaptable lesson, which can be used with groups, partners, as a book report or completely individually. It could be used over the course of a whole unit or at the end. It could be used as an end assessment or as a check for understanding during the reading. You simply would have the students complete each donut at the appropriate time. It is fun, easy to use, and allows for quick and easy review/assessment as needed. Included are blank donuts so you can create your own project too!
Directions: Students cut, color and fill in 6 donut flip books (each has 3 pages with extras included too). The second page is for the illustration, while the 3rd page is for the written explanation. In this way the student illustrates and writes about every part of the story mountain. They then glue the donut books to the “box.”
These donuts work great as group work too, and are just perfect for quick group or whole class presentation. I see them as small literature circle jobs for the members of the group, and run the lesson in a cooperative fashion, with presentations or sharing at the end. I sometimes even have each group write a part on the board so the groups complete the story mountain without too much help from me, and all groups get to review. These also are great as book reports too! Have the kids bring in real donut boxes and make it fun! Perfect for bulletin boards too!

Included:
Six donut flap books with setting, beginning situation, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution
Each flap book has 3 pages with a donut cover to color, a page for an illustration and a page for a written explanation
Individual and group grading sheets
Extra pages to add to donuts if needed
A blank donut flap book so you could develop your own unique donut flap books if needed!
Teacher notes to explain how to use these
A whimsical take on literary analysis!
A large (one page in size) book report donut booklet dedicated to the story mountain elements and setting!
